Test reveals Meghan Markle is 43% Nigerian

The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, says she conducted a genealogy test which revealed she is 43% Nigerian according her genetic heritage.

Markle made this known in the latest episode of her podcast, Archetypes. According to the Mirror, she expressed her desire to learn more about her roots.

Meghan had the discussion with American actress Issa Rae, Nigerian-American writer Ziwe Fumudoh, and Professor Emily Bernards.

“I just had my genealogy done a couple years ago,” Meghan said, making her guests to prod her to share the results with them, which prompted the Duchess to proudly say, “I’m 43% Nigerian.” Surprised, Ziwe shouted: “No way! Are you serious? This is huge. Igbo, Yoruba, do we know?”

“I’m going to start to dig deeper into all of this because anyone that I’ve told, especially Nigerian women, are just like, what?”

After the revelation, the Nigerian-American Ziwe joked that the Duchess looks like “her aunt, Ouzo.”

It was the first time Meghan opened up about her ancestral background on the public stage.
