Five Policemen deceased as bandits ambush convoy in Zamfara

By Fortune Mbonu

On their way from Sokoto state to a special duty assignment in Zamfara last Sunday, a convoy was met with mayhem as suspected bandits opened fire on a vehicle conveying policemen. The aftermath of the attack left five officers of the Nigeria Police Force dead.

One of the surviving officers confirmed that they were suddenly ambushed by armed assailants who unprovoked opened rapid fire on them.

In his words, “we were travelling in three vehicles when they opened fire on the third vehicle. Five of our members were killed in the process”.

Videos of the incident spread online showed the lifeless bodies of some of the officers inside a vehicle, with their hands and legs reportedly tied with ropes.

The videos further depicted the officers’ belongings scattered about at the scene, while the vehicle conveying them had visible bloodstains and glass shards.

Efforts to speak with the spokesperson for police zone 10, ASP Abdallah Faruku, were futile, as his contact could not be reached at the time of filing this report.
