What began as a political mobilisation in Warri, Delta State, reportedly turned chaotic on Friday as supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso confronted suspected political thugs during an NDC march.
Videos circulating online showed tense scenes as members of the Obidient and Kwankwasiya movements appeared to stand their ground against the alleged attackers. Reports said the confrontation occurred around the Warri Airport area during the mobilisation exercise.
An aide linked to Obi, Esther Umoh, alleged that politically sponsored attackers had targeted members of the campaign group. However, the identities of the alleged attackers and claims linking them to the APC have not been independently established.
Footage from the scene showed supporters confronting the suspected attackers, with reports indicating that the latter eventually retreated.
The incident has added to concerns over political violence as parties and support groups intensify mobilisation ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
