The Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) election staff recruitment portal has come under scrutiny after an applicant reportedly discovered that another person’s photograph and credentials were displayed on her profile.
In a post shared on X by @TheAdjowa, the applicant questioned INEC over the information appearing on her INECPRES account, asking: “Who tf is this? Is this Adejoke??? Is Adejoke a Man’s name?? Why is his credentials on mine???”
Screenshots attached to the post appear to show an INECPRES acknowledgement slip and applicant profile displaying a photograph and personal information that the user says do not belong to her.
The development is concerning because INECPRES collects sensitive information, including applicants’ personal details, bank account information, identification documents and passport photographs. INEC’s own guidelines state that applicants must carefully verify their information before submission, while the commission says those who entered incorrect information should contact its Helpdesk
INEC has not publicly confirmed that the reported case represents a wider database breach. However, the incident has raised questions about the accuracy of applicant records and the protection of personal data on a platform being used to recruit election officials for the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election.
